step into their celebration
The best kind of wedding days are the ones where you get to keep up with capturing the laughter, quiet moments, and the celebration that comes with a couple like Maddie and Frankie. Their September wedding at Whistling Straits was one of those weddings you never forget.
Nestled along the bluffs of Lake Michigan in Kohler, Wisconsin is Whistling Straits. It has this way of making everything feel both enormous and intimate all at once. I’ve had the chance to work at Whistling Straits a couple of times now (with two upcoming celebrations later this month) and each time it gets better and better.
Maddie & Frankie wedding day had a quiet sophistication. During both their engagement session and wedding day, I remember feeling nothing but love radiate from these two. What a honor it was to capture such a special day for them while meeting those closest to them. There really isn’t anything better than stepping into a couples world.
The morning unfolded for both Maddie and Frankie in the Champions Locker Room. Think marble and rich wood accents along with a stone fireplace. I love leaning into dramatic lighting in this space. It has an overall gentlemen’s club feel to it so it only seem fitting to create some dramatic black and whites.
One of my favorite benefits to couples getting ready in nearby spaces is the flexibility. For example, Frankie needed just a little bit more time for lunch so we were able to shift their timeline giving him & his groomsmen a chance to unwind and relax before the events started.
Is there anything more romantic than a first look with Lake Michigan & a golf course in the background? Obvious answer, nope!
Logistically though, with a first look I always love giving the couple a moment alone. The day moves so unbelievably quick and encouraging the couple to take a few minutes to slow down before getting started. After their first look we took our time photographing portraits, private vows, and their wedding party. The lake stretched out besides us with The Irish Barn in the background. Absolute perfection!
If you’ve visited Whistling Straits you know that the Straits Chapel is iconic in both it’s location but exterior and interior vibes. It’s easily one of the most stunning spots in the state of Wisconsin and getting to photograph Maddie and Frankie’s ceremony is something I don’t take for granted. I was SO unbelievably excited for this one!
The reception in the Irish Barn was everything the day had promised. There was a deep sophistication, warmth, and personal feel to the barn that really gives the space an intimate feeling. After a handful of incredibly heartfelt toasts, the dance floor opened and Maddie and Frankie shared their first dance. This is easily one of my favorite moments during a wedding day. Not only hearing the song selection but seeing a couple fully present in one of the most beautiful moments! To just be! The best.
