My Word For The New Year & Random Mumblings

I have been seeing a reoccurring trend across my social media this season and one that I can honestly stand behind. It was to start the New Year without a long list of resolutions. I’ll be honest, I’m not the best at sticking with goals especially on a personal level. I give up, get tired, get frustrated, get sidetracked. You name it, I’ve come up with an excuse for it. So when it seemed most individuals were walking into the New Year sans list in hand, I knew that this was exactly my kind of goal.

But what am I exactly focusing on with the New Year? I’ve got a few projects and ideas that I’m mulling over. For the last few months, I’ve felt like I was on the verge of a breakthrough. What that breakthrough was, I don’t know. Truth be told, I’ve been struggling a bit with my writing and the avenue I want this blog to go. It’s SO simple during on season. Loads of weddings, constantly shooting, content generating on it’s own. But when the summer months slip into winter, it can be daunting to stare at a calendar and KNOW that you SHOULD put out content. But what exactly?

In an industry when everyone seems to be educating. Educating to brides, educating to photographers, educating to entrepreneurs, educating to creatives. It’s hard to sift through the knowledge you know as “wait, did I figure this out myself? or did I pick it up from so and so’s blog”. Any simple wedding-related topic, after a quick google search, will show you pages upon pages of said topic. I guess what I’m getting at is, how do I talk about content that I maybe didn’t conjure up on my own?

Last year my word of the year was grace.  I decided all year I’d be giving myself grace. Grace for work grace for not hitting personal deadlines, grace for not keeping up with some business tasks.  Looking back, I believe I did a semi-decent job of doing just that. So this year, I decided that the word I would focus on would be… Focus.

So what does focus look like exactly for me? Focusing on my mental health (which, I’m so unbelievably thankful for, and focusing on certain aspects of my business that I gave myself grace on last year (cough cough accounting bleh). Focusing on my personal relationships and focusing on my physical health and eating more healthy. Now, you may be reading that and going, “aren’t those basically resolutions?” & I guess if we’re talking semantics, then yes they are. But instead of leaving grace behind in 2017 I’m bringing it along with me. Chikfila on a Monday? Grace. But focusing on better eating that Tuesday. I’m hoping I’m making sense.

I’m excited to see what 2018 holds. Not only for my personal life but also the business.

Wee!
